Ellie Shelf – The most Amazing solution for Angled walls

Perfect for adding shelving where space is tight or angled walls cause issues for normal shelves. The original idea for the Ellie Shelf came from my wife, as we wanted a side table by the bed, but this wasn’t possible.  They fit any angled walls, as the chain can be easily adjusted with the S hooks provided. These are purpose made for boat walls but could be used in any environment. They are robust and attractive, folding up when not in use, with a magnet to hold them easily in place.

The standard piano hinge is electro-plated but can be upgraded to stainless steel if required, along with all fixings. Please note that this product is designed for interior use and as such high moisture areas where stainless steel is required may not be suitable.

Ellie Shelf Construction

They are a birch ply base with a wooden surround that comes in a choice of redwood PSE, re-sawn timber or reclaimed floorboard, depending on how much texture and character you would like. All three are gorgeous, robust and will bring beauty to any situation.

They can be bought without finish (ready for you to add your own) or pre-oiled in Osmo Polyx-oil.

It is recommended that if you buy the shelves with no finish that you apply your choice of finish before use. Leaving the shelves bare may cause them to stain or cause mechanical failure issues, e.g. warping of timber.

If you would like a finish that is not listed on the main listing, then go to the “Bespoke Ellie Shelf” page, where you can contact us and arrange to have your shelves finished in any type of finish you desire.  We can also advise you on different finishes that might work for your style and aesthetic if you wish.

We currently offer a selection of 3 materials, all of which are combined with a furniture grade birch ply centre.

PSE Redwood (Pine)

This is FSE approved redwood pine. It has a smooth surface and may contain live knots. If you want a piece completely free of knots, please let us know in notes and this can be arranged.  It is a light yellow colour when unfinished, slightly darker when oiled.

This is sanded smooth, edges raised and ready to finish in any style, but it is particularly suited to paint or varnish. It can also be stained prior to varnishing.

Re-sawn pine

This is pine from reclaimed joists. They are re-sawn to produce thinner timber that we then machine up to use in our shelves. We retain the sawn texture on one face for it’s aesthetically pleasing appearance. The texture is rough, with regular vertical lines where the mill saw has cut the boards down. There can also be dark holes where nails have been removed. We leave these as a feature, as I enjoy how it highlights the history of the wood.

This is lightly sanded to remove sharp edges, but still has a very strong marking from the process. Great for a more rustic look. Can take all finishes, but a varnish or oil is my preference, with a stain first if desired.

Re-claimed floorboard (Pine)

This is a highly textured and timber with a lot of character. If you want a rustic look, then this is the one. Every piece is a unique. We highlight the beauty of the marks the boards have received over the year, just giving it just a light sanding and leaving all the marks, nail holes, stains and sometimes even splashes of paint (my favourite).  These boards are typically 75–150 years old and show their full history in their appearance.

While they can be painted, they are better suited to oil or varnish, with a stain first if desired. A lime wash effect or similar might also look nice.
